[Karmic Acts of Kindness] 31 Days of Kind Acts - Give a Little Extra Support to a Friend
Have you ever had a friend who is directly or indirectly affected by tragedy or illness? Or maybe you have a friend who is trying to raise awareness on a certain cause? Chances are your answer is yes.
My very dear friend, Kelly Paull, has a son who has severe peanut allergies. She is currently trying to raise awareness in her school district to ban peanut-based foods at school to protect not only her son but the countless others who are affected by allergies. So, what does this mean for me and the Karmic Kids? Well, it could be that it means nothing. My kids don't have allergies. They don't go to her son's school. Nor do they play together since we live in separate towns. And, quite frankly, our friendship has very little to do with this allergy. But, and this is a big but here folks. But, this concern does affect me, and it does affect the Karmic Kids. It affects us because, like you, we care about our friends. So, in our effort to show solidarity, the Karmic Kids and I decided that we would no longer pack PB & J lunches for school. Okay, maybe that seems a little anti-climatic, but it a small way we can show kindness to our friends. (Plus peanut butter is a mainstay in our lunches!) Also, this small act of support teaches the Karmic Kids compassion for others. (My oldest Karmic Kid is also very excited to be allowed to sit at the peanut-free table in the lunch room so he can make new friends!)
So, today, think about a way you can provide a little extra support to your friends. It could be as simple as a phone call to say you are thinking of them, a hug, or more.
In chaos, karma, creativity, and kindness,
Julie
